Radiocarbon dating shows that bluestones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC. The structure of Stonehenge is complicated. There are large standing stones in a circle. There are earthen dams all around. There are 56 earthen cave around this dam. There are two more rows of holes in the rocks. It has a circular trench on the outside. The rock formations include two rounds and two horse hooves shaped rows of stones.
Archaeologists believe that it was built between 3000 and 2000 BC. It was created in a few steps about 5,000 years ago. Work on the first phase began in 3100 BC. Outside, a circular trench 360 feet in diameter and 6 feet deep was dug. The second phase begins 100 to 200 years after the first phase is completed.
The work of the third phase began about 400 to 500 years after the second phase. The main work of Stonehenge is basically completed at this stage. At this time 30 giant stones of Stonehenge, about 13 feet long and about 6 feet wide, were laid. The stones are known as Sarsen. These stones weighing 25 tons were brought here from a place called Marlborough 25 miles away. How the stones were brought here is still a wonder. Because, then the transportation system was not good. The Neolithic British used primitive tools to build Stonehenge. Most likely made with deer horns. The builders put 70 foreign blue stones standing. Here are still 43 of those blue stones remain.
There are various myths about the creator of Stonehenge. Although, it's entirely an ancient misconception. However, the fictional story of the twelfth-century author Geoffrey's book "Monmouth" was believed by many at that time. According to him, this Stonehenge was made by the magician Marlin. According to many people Stonehenge is a cemetery. From the beginning of 3000 BC, human bones began to accumulate, which continued for at least 500 years. Many people believe that Irish-British war took place for possessing Stonehenge.
Various scientists, historians and archaeologists have agreed that Stonehenge was not built by anyone alone. It has been created in different steps, by people of different eras.
Arrangements have been made to restore this scenic spot several times. Some concrete has been provided so that the stone does not collapse. The Government of England is working to make Stonehenge tourism more accessible and has continued archaeological excavations and development at various other sites in the vicinity.
